What is Oman Fawtara?

A practical introduction to structured electronic invoicing for Oman.

The short answer

Fawtara is the Oman Tax Authority’s electronic invoicing programme. Preparing for it means understanding your business’s applicability, producing the required structured invoice data and establishing the appropriate service-provider exchange route. A PDF invoice alone is not the same thing as a structured exchange workflow.

Who should prepare?

Bring finance, IT and the business owner together. Record VAT status, legal entities, taxable supplies, document types and the software producing invoices. Confirm your implementation period with the current OTA portal and any direct notifications.

What does the invoice journey involve?

Your business creates invoice data; software prepares and validates it; a service provider manages the regulated exchange under the applicable arrangement. The customer still needs clear responsibilities for data quality, corrections, recordkeeping and support.

Can I keep my ERP?

Start by checking the fields, interfaces and document lifecycle your ERP supports. Existing software may remain the commercial source if an accepted integration route can be scoped and tested. Explore the integration guide rather than assuming replacement is required.

Where should I verify requirements?

Use the OTA Fawtara portal and applicability checking service. Older explanatory material may show different phase dates. This guide deliberately does not turn conflicting timetable statements into an unqualified promise.
